Atlanta Feasts: Brash Coffee and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams

A lot of Atlanta reminds me of Berlin (East). Of course, I'm referring to the artsy areas like Inman Park, Little Five Points and Old Fourth Ward and not places like Buckhead. But just like how I love the artsy vibe and feel of Berlin, is exactly what I love about these areas of Atlanta. Again, these were somewhat no-go areas in the past but the renovations of old warehouses, police stations, and old neighbourhoods is really making the place come alive, while still keeping a historic feel.

Westside Provisions District | My Passions Fruit

Another recent development we came across was Westside Provisions District, where West Egg Cafe and Yeah! Burger are, among other eateries and shops. Brash Coffee is also here. It's a small pop-up looking coffee shop sitting in a shipping container. It's quirky and popular, and they sell their own coffee.

I got a cappuccino and it was fine. The coffee had a nice taste but it wasn't that strong (not necessarily asking for one to blow my head off because that's personal taste, but it was a decent pick-me-up). Would still go there again because it's a nice place, and would probably try another type of coffee.

One thing I found, especially on this trip, is cappuccino's are not what you would necessarily find in Europe (can't speak for the rest of the US). What mine looked like, was a flat white or a latte, but I got this elsewhere too where there is no foam on the top, which is what a cappuccino is supposed to have, otherwise it's just not one. I have been to other places where there was some foam, but others (and seemingly the more coffee-focussed places) didn't seem to produce a cappuccino. I'm all for the drink itself, but a cappuccino is just not what's in my hand.

Across the street from Brash and a short walk over the bridge is Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. The people behind the counter are dressed up like old fashioned soda shop workers, which is a nice touch and they're very helpful and welcoming. They encourage you to sample each and every flavour and you don't just get simple ice cream flavours here either. They make the ice cream in house (you can see them sometimes mixing it up, adjusting flavours, behind the counter), and it's made the natural way with high-quality ingredients and without all the additives.

The flavours were bright and fresh and you could taste exactly what was in it. We had bramleberry crisp which had bits of oat streusel in it, brown butter almond brittle, orange blossom buttermilk (delicious!!), and wildberry lavender. I highly recommend taking them up on the offer to taste test them. They have some of the best ice cream flavour compositions I've ever had and it's definitely a place that will force you to step outside of the vanilla, chocolate box, on options alone.

Have a drool at Jeni's amazing and unique flavours, here.
